During a recent visit with an old bandmate, we decided to engage in a songwriting retreat at his weekend place in Deltaville, Virginia. We really didn't get much songwriting done amidst the drinking and talking...the drinking and eating... and the drinking and... drinking, but during one of our extended conversations, I referred to all the friends I've never met from the social networking sites on the net. I guess the song will explain the rest...
To all the friends I've never met,
On FaceBook®, Twitter®, and the net,
I celebrate them all,
Together we could have a ball,
And never even break a sweat
To all the friends I've never met,
On poker sites as I place my bet,
We all think we're gonna win,
That's how they pull us in,
Until we're all knee deep in debt
I know folks who build on Farmland,
Or play that silly Mafia game,
And the Pirates that rock the Caribbean,
When it comes to killing time they’re all the same
To all the friends I've never met,
In uniform or now a vet,
I'd be proud to shake their hand,
For their defense of this great land,
To all you friends who stem the threat
To all the friends I've never met,
Blonde, or redhead, or brunette,
There's some with graying hair,
But I don't really care,
'Cause they don't know I'm balding yet
I locate my friends when they check in,
On any of a dozen smartphone apps,
And I wish that someone could explain that,
It’s very rude to type in caps
To all the friends I've never met,
Who've told the jokes I didn't get,
'Cause they missed the punch line so,
R...O...T...F. L... M... A... O,
Maybe next time they won't forget
To all the friends I've never met,
On FaceBook®, Twitter®, or on the net,
I hope someday we meet,
So I can finally greet,
All my friends I've never met
I hope someday we meet,
So I can finally greet,
All my friends I've never met....
