I made the pilgrimage to Key West for MOTM back in 2011, and before I arrived, I stopped off in Key Largo to play the Pirates On The Water Pre Party, where I happened to be introduced to this lovely couple from Vermont...Barbara Smith, and Scott Paulson, were headed down, and happened to be pan steel players. Scott jumped in during my set, and picked up on my tunes right away, and I was pleased as punch to have the accompaniment.
We ran into each other throughout the week, and on Sunday, at Shelly Speckman's Casa Loco, she had a little brunch get together, and she and her roomies, and other close friends, settled in to French Toast made from banana bread, bacon, eggs, and the best damned Bloody Mary's that I'd ever had... And of course, a little music.,,
David McKenney, Scott, Barbara, and I, got out our instruments, and this was the first song we did. Not a one of these folks had ever heard the song, but man, I wouldn't trade the result for nothin'! Here's my homage to having to leave vacation... When you don't want too!
